(ii) Orff We Go! The Orff Schulwerk Way
(iii) A Sunny Island Called Singapore
(iv) An Introduction to Xylophones
(v) Our Kampong Days – A Music Movement Workshop
Creative Movement and Dance
Our Creative Movement and Folk dancing programme aims to provide a holistic experience for students. Using a kineasthetic and exploratory methodology, students will be engaged in folk dancing activities where they will get numerous opportunities to work collaboratively in pairs and in groups. They will be engaged in creative problem-solving activities. Some of the movement goals include the basic concepts of Laban movement such as body awareness, Space, Time, Energy, and Relationships. This is a good platform to develop student’s musicality and to enjoy community activities together.
Orff We Go! The Orff Schulwerk Way
Students will be introduced to music education the Orff Schulwerk way. The Orff method is a way of teaching children about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing, acting and the use of percussion instruments (i.e. drums, claves, shakers, xylophones, glockenspiels). Students will be learning musical concepts using different modalities (singing, chants, dance, movement, dramatisation and use of instruments). This is a developmentally appropriate methodology that involves a student’s natural sense of play in improvisation and composition.
A Sunny Island Called Singapore
Students will be introduced to songs and music that reflect their lives and culture in Singapore – the places we live in, the people we meet and the food we eat. There will be songs in four languages (English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil) and musical activities (singing, movement and instrument play) that are in-line with the MOE Kindergarten Curriculum Framework. This programme aims to develop cultural sensitivity and awareness through songs and dances. A creative music and movement module that is developmentally appropriate for students to understand diversity, experience our culture and explore our heritage.
An Introduction to Xylophones
Students will be introduced to music education the Orff Schulwerk way. The Orff method is a way of teaching students about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing, acting and the use of percussion instruments (i.e. drums, claves, shakers, xylophones, glockenspiels). Students will be learning musical concepts using different modalities (singing, chants, dance, movement, dramatization and use of instruments). This is a developmentally appropriate methodology that involves a student’s natural sense of play in improvisation and composition.
Our Kampong Days – A Music Movement Workshop
Teleport back with us back to the old kampong days of the 60s and 70s, as we use traditional toys and games in our fun-filled music and movement workshop. This highly participatory workshop will get children to sing, move, play, create music and at the same time, learn about our Singapore heritage and the ‘gotong royong’ spirit of communal helping.
